Alex Hargreaves
At the age of 16, Alex Hargreaves of Corvallis, Oregon, has been playing violin for more than twelve years. Along the way, he has studied and performed a wide variety of string music styles including classical, jazz, bluegrass, and new acoustic music. In June, 2007, Alex won the Grand Champion division at the National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest in Weiser, Idaho. He is the youngest contestant ever to win the Grand Champion division. Alex has shared the stage with many prominent musicians including Mike Marshall, David Grisman, Mark O'Connor, Chris Thile, Tim O'Brien, and Darol Anger.

Paul Kowert
Paul Kowert is from Madison, Wisconsin, and recently graduated from The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. As a classical musician Paul has performed with various orchestras as a soloist and as a section member, most recently playing in the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland in the summer of 2008. He was one of the performers at Edgar Meyer’s Carnegie Hall workshop in 2006, and since then has appeared in concert with Darol Anger’s Republic of Strings, Tristan and Tashina Clarridge, Alex and Tatiana Hargreaves, Futureman’s Black Mozart Ensemble, Jordan Tice, Brittany Haas, and Jeremy Kittel. Besides playing in Big Trio, Paul is a newly appointed member of Chris Thile's Punch Brothers.
